Bling!

Wendy at Umi & Tsuru is sending me a blinged shuttle she dolled up. Part of that deal was I needed to bling one and send it to her.

The first two shuttles I enhanced went to Lace-lovin' Librarian Diane some time ago. I didn't think to take pictures of them, but so here they are using the picture off Diane's blog.

Since they were so pretty, I wanted to make another similar to that one for Wendy. Before I mailed it I decided to test tat with it ....... When I tat I use the pointed tip alot. Sadly I determined that the paper on this tip did not play nice, so it couldn't be mailed. (I think you maybe able to see it on the photo below.) Did the one I sent you do that, Diane?

Pretty but not practical.

Okay so onto a different idea. I couldn't find printed tissue paper in my small town, but I did find white. In a former crafting life I was a stamper, so I took a permanent black ink pad & markers, a small flower stamp and added it to the paper. I also stamped tissue paper for the back, but that will have to wait until Wendy gets it to be revealed. Then I decoupaged the stamped paper onto the shuttle. I wet sanded it, very gently (my first attempt sanded off the paper) to make it smooth. I could still see the brush strokes, which I wasn't happy about but didn't know how to change that.

So here's mine, Wendy, and it's on it's way to you.

As soon as all my Holiday projects are done, I'm going to have to make me a couple of these for my own use.

Sorry for the bad quality pictures, they were taken with my cellphone in low light.

Tat On!

Granted, I've only tatted one small piece with mine, but the tips are fine. I'll let you know if I experience any problems. I did find that I liked the look of the tissue paper decoupage more than the scrapbooking paper, and I think I like working with fabric most of all. I'll be playing some more once I finish my Christmas knitting... by Tuesday, I hope!

Bonnie I too don't like brush marks so I used a sponge brush, laid the decoupage medium on a little thick then squeegee'd (is that a word?) it off with a credit card. This works well and if you want to do more than one layer of decoupage medium for a thicker coat you could.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Bonnie! I am busy with quite a few things and mostly I'm on FB. if you're on fb you can click on my profile link on the right sidebar of the blog to find me (very top right) anyway I'm going through some stressful things right now plus I got a new computer and I can't find my camera software to put on the new computer (the old one pretty much died)
(((hugs))) and Merry Christmas

Hi, Bonnie,

I have tried this - and failed miserably! I don't really 'get' how to do decoupage and when I start to read about it, I nod off quickly - lack of interest, I fear! I'll leave all the decorating to all you talented folk out there in Tat-land!

The pink and blue ones that you show at the top are very pretty.

I had to set my playing aside but I noticed the paper on the tip problem too and mine was a napkin! I can't figure out if I need to bring the paper down over the edge of the shuttle or stop it at the top. I've only put one coat of mod podge so far but will do more than one, mostly to protect the paper from use. I always put at least 3 or 4 on my painted shuttles. That does tend to smooth out the brush strokes too. Yours have turned out very pretty!
